Evelyn decided to check her mail box one Saturday morning. She opened it and saw it was from a friend that betrayed her eight years ago. She felt so uneasy when she read the message and began to recall what happened a long time ago. Well, the universe in its infinite wisdom decided to throw a little reminder of her past and the outcome wasn't too good. She thought she had let go of her past until she felt so worried that she couldn't do anything that morning. It took time for her to become still and stable. She decided to accept her friend but had to reframe the relationship.
"You can clutch the past so tightly to your chest that it leaves your arms too full to embrace the present"- Jan Glidewell.
There are situations, people and events we don't like and aren't able to change. We have no choice than to accept it. Accepting one's painful past makes it hurt less. The past doesn't define you and it shouldn't ruin your present.
"We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is to play on the one string we have and that's our attitude."- Charles Swindol.
No matter what happened in the past, greater things are yet to come. There's no need playing the victim role. Don't waste your time and energy, it won't aid in any way. Be grateful for where you are today, focus on the present here and now.
"Gratitude for where you are today is a great antidote for a painful yesterday."
The past becomes dangerous when it robs you of the present and it's also destructive when it blinds you to the future. Remember, you cannot change what happened in the past but you can change how you view it. Forgive those who have wronged you and let it go. Never be a prisoner to your past, don't let it destroy you, deter you or defeat you but let it strengthen you.You can't erase the past but life gives you the opportunity to put it right. Don't forget to entrust God with the scars of your history, he'll surely fix all the broken pieces.
Happy weekend!!
